Panhandle Search and Rescue – Policies & Membership Overview
Membership Types:
Rescue Members: Fully trained, field-ready members who can vote, hold office, and lead missions. Must be 18+, have a valid Florida driver’s license, and meet all training requirements.
Candidate Members: In training for Rescue or Support status. Must be 18+, pass background checks, and complete first aid, SAR, ICS 100 & 200, and other entry training. Cannot vote or hold office until upgraded.
Support Members: Assist with SAR functions, logistics, and operations without full field duties. May vote and hold office once training is complete.
Lifetime Members: Honored for 5+ years of exceptional service.
Training Requirements:
Members must complete training in navigation, tracking, medical aid, rope & rigging, litter handling, radio operation, vehicle use, helicopter safety, backcountry skills, and bloodborne pathogen safety.
Operating Policies:
Only approved members may represent PSAR in the field.
Equipment and vehicles must be used only for SAR purposes.
All members must keep certifications current and maintain readiness.
Safety, professionalism, and teamwork are mandatory at all times.
Conduct:
No alcohol or drugs during missions or training.
Maintain fitness and disclose any limitations before deployment.
Harassment of any kind is not tolerated.
Misuse of SAR equipment, funds, or name may result in dismissal.
Participation Expectations:
Rescue: At least 2 operations + 3 trainings per year.
Candidate: At least 4 operations + 3 trainings in the first year.
Support: At least 5 team events per year.
Meetings:
Regular meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month. Special meetings may be called as needed.
