Panhandle Search and Rescue Kicks Off with a Successful First Fundraiser at the Opossum Festival

Panhandle Search and Rescue has officially launched—and what better way to kick things off than at one of the Panhandle's most beloved local events?
This past weekend, we proudly set up our very first booth at the Opossum Festival in Wausau, Florida, and it was an unforgettable experience. Not only did we get the opportunity to connect with members of our community and share our mission, but we also held a raffle drawing that turned out to be a heartwarming highlight of the day.
In an incredible show of support, one of our own county commissioners won the raffle—and in a gesture that left us speechless, they turned right around and donated the winnings back to us. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do and how strong our community truly is.
Thanks to the generous spirit of festival-goers and supporters, we successfully raised $791 for our nonprofit organization. Every dollar will go directly toward equipment, training, and operational support so we can be ready when it matters most—helping locate and rescue those in need.
We’re beyond grateful for everyone who stopped by our booth, entered the raffle, asked questions, and offered encouragement. Your kindness fuels our team and reminds us that we’re not in this alone.
This is just the beginning for Panhandle Search and Rescue, and we’re excited for what’s ahead. Stay tuned for upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and ways to support our mission.
Thank you, Wausau. Thank you, Opossum Festival. And thank you to everyone who believes in the power of community, service, and saving lives.
Together, we make a difference.
